Bryce Courtenay is a best selling author who resides in Australia. He was born and spent most of his childhood years in South Africa.
After receiving a scholarship to a boy's school, Bryce started a weekend school for Africans in that school. He was branded a Communist because educating Africans was considered a subversive act. As a result, he was banned from returning to his home country.
Bryce studied journalism at a university in England, where he met his future wife, Benita. They both moved to Australia where Bryce began to write his novels, which are primarily set in Australia or South Africa.
Some of his bestsellers include The Power Of One, The Potato Factory, Brother Fish and Jessica; and more recently, Whitethorn, Sylvia and The Persimmon Tree.
