The Artemis Fowl series is written by Eoin Colfer, starring Artemis Fowl II, a teenage criminal mastermind, who takes charge of rebuilding his family fortune following the disappearance of his father. The fantasy books are targeted towards young adults.
There are currently six books in the series, the first one being published in 2001 and the sixth one in 2008. There is also an anticipated seventh book to be released in 2010, and a film based on the series is also in development. More on Wikipedia.
